A vast range of energy options. One informed path forward.
The City of Ann Arbor, Michigan, has one of the most ambitious climate goals in the nation: community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030. To reach this goal, the City explored a wide range of energy strategies—from traditional municipalization to an innovative sustainable energy utility—along with the
application of carbon offsets, local generation, and market-based tools.
To navigate these complex issues, the City partnered with NewGen Strategies and Solutions, LLC for independent data-driven analysis and clear, accessible communication to guide stakeholders through the decision-making process.
Our Work
- Conducted technical, financial, and policy analysis of multiple energy pathways.
- Delivered transparent, side-by-side comparisons of traditional and innovative utility models.
- Assessed how each approach aligned with community values and feasibility.
- Supported independent fact-based communication to inform and engage stakeholders.
- With a clear understanding of each option’s risks, benefits, and alignment to their ambitious carbon-neutral timeline, the City is now equipped to pursue innovative pathways toward carbon neutrality that could inspire other communities throughout the country.
